Ultima 7: The Black Gate
was released in 1992, and featured a new isometric engine that
vastly expanded both the functionality and detail of the world
of Britannia. With this game and this engine, Ultima set a standard
in world interactivity.
Ultima 7 saw the Avatar mysteriously summoned to Britannia
after being contacted by an apparently malevolent being called
the Guardian. Arriving, the Avatar finds Britannia giving up
on the Virtues, and a new group called the Fellowship spreading
its philosophy through the land. Only a few know the Fellowship's
true purpose - to assasinate the Avatar and summon the Guardian
to enslave Britannia.

Exult 3D
|
Produced by: Sam Matthews Website: Announcement (Exult forums) Releases: * Exult 3D (Windows)
A newly announced project, Exult 3D currently has no project web-page, and the author admits (in this thread on the Exult forums) that the program is nowhere near ready for release.
That said, the early screenshots posted in that forum thread are amazing, to say the least, and offer a "never-before-seen" perspective on the world of Ultima 7.
As this program uses the original data for Ultima 7, you will need the original games to run it. And yes, like Exult, it will run both The Black Gate and Serpent Isle.

The Black Gate: Agape
|
Produced by: Major_Error Website: Agape
Agape was being produced by the same team that made the recent Ultima 8 Demo. However, in a dramatic shift, the project has changed hands entirely! Though still headquartered out of the same site, the project is now being led by Dennis "Major_Error" Schenkel - a talented Neverwinter Nights developer.
Currently, Dennis is on vacation, which accounts for the sparse updates to the Agape website. However, if the early screenshots in this thread in our own Sword & Shield forum are any indicator, he is well on his way to delivering a promising module.

Exult
|
Produced by: Team Exult Website: Exult at Sourceforge Releases: * Windows Binary * Mac OSX 10.3 * Sharp Zaurus * Fedora - Game * Fedora - Tools * Fedora - Exult Studio * Source (RPM) * Source (.tar.gz)
A staggering and amazing remake, Exult is a cross-platform reworking of the Ultima 7/Serpent Isle engine that allows the game to be run on modern operating systems with expanded memory environments. This is not the same as a mere Voodoo wrapper program, and it works on many systems besides the Windows PC.
Exult 1.2 is the latest "stable" release - Team Exult is making massive engine changes, and subsequent releases are expected to have instabilities as a result. It has Windows, Mac OSX, Sharp Zaurus, and Fedora. Also avaliable is the source, so other systems can compile and build Exult.

Ultima 7 in Windows
|
Produced by: Dragon Baroque (Gaseous Dragon) Website: Gaseous Dragon Releases: * Windows 2000 v1.2 * Windows 9x v1.2 * Windows 9x v1.2 source * Windows XP v1.2 * Windows XP v1.2 source
Somewhat redundant now, with the development and release of stable builds of Exult, these patches enable Ultima 7 to run in the expanded-memory environment of most Windows builds.
Essentially, this creates a wrapper program that enables Ultima 7's Voodoo memory manager to run in expanded-memory environments (specific to certain builds of Windows).
