Ultima 6: The False Prophet was released in 1990, and featured the first of the isometric Ultima engines, which eliminated the need for "dual-scale" world maps and allowed a greater level of immersion into the world of Britannia.

Ultima 6 told the story of the invasion of Britannia by the Gargoyles, and the racial prejudice that marred both sides of the conflict. Force of arms would not be the way to resolve this conflict, and so the Avatar has to find a way to peacefully resolve the conflict, a dispute over the ownership of the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom.

Ultima 6 for Exult
Produced by: mikefictiti0us
Website: Exult Forum Discussion
Releases:
* Ultima 6 Patch

This ambitious retooling of Exult aims to modify the Ultima 7 game world and story into that of Ultima 6. Apparently being undertaken by a single person, the early screenshots look very promising. While Ultima 7's tile graphics lack the vivacity of colour that was seen in Ultima 6, the attention to detail that mikefictiti0us has put into areas like the Throne Room and Nystul's Lab is very promising.

Ultima Classics Revisited
Produced by: prmths
Website: UCR
Releases:
* Version 0.1.0 (Windows)
* Version 0.1.2 (*nix)

This interesting collection of Ultima remakes currently offers a fully implemented engine for Akalabeth, and a partial engine for Ultima 1 as well. The current beta version is 0.1.2, and is hosted here for download. Akalabeth is fully playable now in UCR.

Featuring enhanced graphics and offering full compatibility with modern operating systems, this ambitious project aims to re-create the first two Ultima trilogies.

Ultima 6 Project - Archon
Produced by: Exodus Project
Website: Archon
Releases:
* Tech Demo

Another Dungeon Siege remake, this high-profile (and high-tech) project aims to re-create Ultima 6, adding many of the same features to that game as Lazarus promises for Ultima 5: enhanced music, expanded storyline, new characters and additional side quests.

Nuvie
Produced by: Eric Fry
Website: Nuvie at Sourceforge
Releases:
* Windows Snapshot (all flavours)
* Mac OSX 10.3 Snapshot
* Source

Eric Fry's novel remake of the Ultima 6 engine is also going to be compatible with Savage Empire and Martian Dreams. Though currently being developed under Mac OSX, there are downloadable binaries for both Windows and Mac OSX 10.3 (the developer feels these snapshots might also work under earlier versions of OSX, however this is untested. It is the opinion of Aiera that they will not, simply because of some key API changes that exist between OSX 10.2 and 10.3).

The program source code is also available. Linux users will have to compile Nuvie from source.

U6 Speaker Patch
Produced by: Finire Dragon
Website: Finire Dragon
Releases:
* Speaker Patch

Another timing-correction patch that allows Ultima 6 to correctly play sounds through the default PC speaker on faster systems.

Note that Finire Dragon's webpage has no section concerning this patch - he only hosts it there.

Ultima 6 MT-32 Drivers
Produced by: Nodling Dragon
Website: Ultima Tech Info & Patches
Releases:
* MPU-401 Driver
* SoundBlaster Driver

Nodling Dragon's site is well worth the read if you have any interest in making an Ultima remake, as it contains numerous technical documents on the format of Ultima game files.

These are a pair of patches that Nodling released because Ultima 6's MT-32 driver does not correctly output music on faster systems. The MPU patch works with the standard MIDI interface on most systems. The SoundBlaster patch actually adds compatibility with SoundBlaster, which had previously not been supported.

Ultima 6 AdLib Patch
Produced by: Origin Systems Inc. (defunct)
Website: Origin (redirect to UO site)
Releases:
* AdLib Patch

Ultima 6's Adlib sounds require a short delay (23 microseconds) after the game accesses the sound port. On the slower 286/386 systems the game first released on, this was no problem. However, on newer systems, this can be problematic, as the processor is much too fast. This patch causes the necessary delay.
