Long time, no news...
|
Yes, it's been an incredibly long while since the site was updated, and by jove if there isn't a lot to report. I could list all the things that have come up and been modified by events, but it would take way too much time, so here's the short summary:
1) I've switched jobs four times since the last tax season. I now work in IT for Cranesmart Systems.
2) I got engaged. Now I have a wedding to plan.
3) My computer and I have been in an ongoing war, and the poor thing is slowly giving up the ghost. It won't, for example, even bother to open any Adobe application anymore.
Now, I will be upgrading Aiera in short order here, enhancing the functionality of the site so that it has the ability to be syndicated, and adds the ability for the developers to submit news by email (among several other enhancements).
So stay tuned.

UVL interview and Forgotten Worlds
|
The new RPGWatch site, run by the same crew that formerly ran RPGDot, posted a lengthy post mortem interview of Ultima V: Lazarus.
Also, the Forgotten Worlds project have extended their team openings, and posted a screenshot showing that they have managed to decode the U9 model file format:
quote:
After spending a lot of time on decoding the file formats, we finally managed to unravel the file format for the models used in U9. The picture below shows a render scene from blender, a 3d modeling program using the models and textures from Ultima IX Ascension. We are using a self-written Python script to import models to blender where we can pose and modify them."

U6P Milestone 2 announced
|
Milestone 2 of the Ultima 6 Project seems to be on the way and may be released this weekend with some luck.
Also, the Titans of Ether have been having trouble with their forum and provider. While these problems are hopefully over, they would also appreciate the help of a 3D artist and a dialogue writer. |

U5: Lazarus French released; U8 Revisited
|
The French version of Ultima V: Lazarus has been released. Hop over to their downloads page to get hold of it!
In other news, there's a new remake around: Ultima 8 Revisited. It's actually not a new remake as such; The Red Mage, its author, had started this remake long ago but cancelled it to leave space to the Exile project. Once Exile was in turn cancelled, The Red Mage relaunched his remake. A new demo for this remake has been released. |

A couple of audio interviews are now available at IKickPuppies. These include an interview with Jesse "Zephyr" Strachman of the Ultima 6 Project and one with Ian "Tiberius" Frazier from Ultima V: Lazarus. You can get both from the audio page at the IKickPuppies website. |

In case you noticed the site was down...
|
Some of you may have noticed that the site was down for a couple of days there, and I apologize for the inconvenience. I had to pull everything down for a bit while my ISP transferred my account between servers.
This is part of a comprehensive move on my part to improve the Time Immortal domain's structure, and is also the first step towards my taking on the management responsibilities for a couple of other domains. The practical effect on Aiera visitors will be minimal, and the site should be in full working order again as of right now.
However, regular visitors to other Ultima-related sites on the Time Immortal domain may be slightly affected, in that some of them are going to become sub-sections of the Aiera subdomain. In particular, I am planning to at least move The Orphanage, Eriadain, and Agape off of their own subdomains and into Aiera's space. I'm not sure yet if I'll be doing the same for Lost Sosaria, but as that decision is made I will be sure to keep you posted.
Please be patient with me as I continue to restore sites and subdomains.
And thanks, Dino, for otherwise taking over the news!

Catching up a bit
|
Both WtfD and I have been unable to post news for the past few months (as many of you have noticed). Now that I'm not as busy as before, I'll be taking over the news here for a while.
Since there has been too much news to mention in one news post, I'll just give a little summary of the most important news since January. If you want a complete list of updates, see Dino's Ultima Page, or the Ultima news topics in the forum there.
Other updated sites include Ultima 6 Online, Nazghul/Haxima, Exult and Pentagram. |

Many, many updates -- man, I'm getting behind on this!
|
So you may have noticed that there haven't been many updates to the site of late, and there's a reason for that -- I've been a bit busy with work, and now again with school. But things seem to be normalizing, so with any luck I'll be posting news more often in the future.
Here's what's gone on in the Ultima community recently (and forgive me, this list may run a little long)
- Lazarus has released a patch fixing a few bugs in their 1.0 release. Technically, this is the second patch, but whatever -- we'll host the most current version. Some of the bug fixes include
- a fix for teleportation to/from the Shadow realm
- Time freezes when leaving shops should be completely eliminated
- Some monsters have been upgraded in toughness
- And a whole host of others...see the Lazarus website
- Also, at the Lazarus Gameplay Guide, you can find the manual and printable map seperate from the game itself.
- The Mac version of Lazarus has been released as well, and I am in the process of obtaining it. When it is posted to the site, I will let you all know.
- There have been numerous updates to Ultima 5 for TI Calculators -- I would recommend checking its project page for all the details, as there are too many to list here.
- In slightly older news, but still among the news postings that I've missed in recent weeks, there is a tentative announcement from Ultima 6 Archon of an intended February milestone release.
- Nuvie was updated last November, and there have been a huge number of changes made to the module. Once again, I refer you to the project's website, as the list is too massive for this already lengthy newspost.
- The Titans of Ether have upgraded their forum appearence, and have launched a Developer's Diary forum as well. There are also some new screenshots of Kristy, a character in the game.
- Infinity Eternal has some fresh news -- Thepal has posted news of the release of Lazarus. No updates on his own project yet, though. But he assures us that development is progressing, in anticipation of Oblivion's release.
- Also, Project Britannia M1 has been released. I will endeavour to get these files onto Aiera post-haste.
- Haxima has also been released, and is bundled with the latest release of Nazghul. I will have this hosted soon as well.
- Someone in the forum dropped a link to Black Dawn Online, which appears to be an Ultima-inspired MMORPG. I'll do some research and post more news on this one shortly.
- And keep an eye on Ultima 6 Online -- Galleon Dragon will be posting an update shortly (from the announcement on the site, it should have been up on the 13th, but there is no news of it just yet).
Also, I would like to draw your attention to this great little contribution from Sir Iceblade: an aggregated list of all the forum boards for projects listed here on Aiera.
And that seems to be all the news for the moment. More soon, especially once I get those (many!) files posted.

Lazarus Downloads
|
As previously mentioned, Lazarus has been released, and Aiera now has it available for download. So just click on over to our Ultima 5 page and grab it (if you haven't already)!
Just a couple of things I'd ask yo to consider: one) if any part of the download (it's segmented into 7 files) turns out to be corrupted, let me know via email at kennethk -at- timeimmortal.net so I can upload a non-corrupted version. Two) I have a fairly generous amount of bandwidth for a private server (40 GB/month) but that's not so much when Lazarus is about half a GB in size. So I'll be watching my bandwidth fairly closely, and if I see it creeping too close to the monthly limit, I'll temporarily disable downloads of Lazarus until such time as the month turns over and the limit resets.
Just thought I'd let you know in advance rather than spring it on you without warning one day.
Also, because of the sudden emergence of a rather disgusting spammer, I've had to disable unregistered posting on The Bartender news forum. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Lazarus Released!
|
Lazarus has been released!
I am in the process of acquiring the segmented download right now, and when that's done I'll upload it. If all goes to plan, Lazarus should be able through Aiera no later than December 24th (if you haven't already got it).

Lazarus Trailer!
|
There are a couple of Lazarus-related news items today:
- First, the folks at Lazarus have released two new talking points:
- Talking Point #7 - This talking point comes to us from Jim "Dirt" Dertz, a fairly recent member of Team Lazarus who has proven to be an extremely valuable jack-of-all-trades. He came aboard initially for writing dialogue, and did a great job with that, but since then has been doing a lot of playtesting and bug reporting, and producing a slew of art assets for both their building nodes (the textures of both British and Blackthorn's castles were done by Jim), almost all the custom NPC skins in the game, and now a slew of quest-critical items.
http://www.u5lazarus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2356
- Talking Point #8 - This Friday's Talking Point has the Avatar following Jimmy, the sick kid who dreams of being a sailor as he stares across the pond south of Trinsic, while checking the time and phases of the moon with his handy pocket watch. [There are a whole ton of excellent screenshots -- WtFD]
http://www.u5lazarus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2375
- Also, there is a new Teaser Trailer that the team have released. The link is the File Planet download link, and there are more mirrors that are available through the Lazarus mainpage.

Redemption Contest
|
I had meant to post this yesterday, but it slipped my mind until very late in the evening -- the project I've undertaken at work has me up until midnight most nights now.
Anyhow, the Titans of Ether are having a contest, and rather like with Ultima 6 and Lazarus, the outcome for the winner is that their face will appear on an NPC in the game, and the character will also be given a nickname by the winner. Here's how the contest works:
quote:
Register on the board if you haven't done so yet, then click on the "Games" link on top of the board. This will lead you to our new flash games site. There click on the "character page" link an create a character. It's easy, you can choose the name, class etc... It's important that you create this character because else you can't collect the GE (game experience) points you need to win.
After you did that just play the games! There are over 20 flash games waiting for you. Some of them might bring back memories of old Amiga or C64 days ;) I will add at least one new game every day, so everyone has a chance.
Everytime you beat your own highscore you will get 3 GE points. Everytime you win a trophy you will get 8 GE points. The one who has the most GE points on the 3rd of December 2005 at 11 pm CET is the winner!
So get thee to the Redemption Forums!
