The famous s — the used in (some of) the titles, and some of the various runic fonts used in the games — rendered in various font formats. Just install these in your fonts directory and submit your next term paper in a font to make proud!

Just for reference, the “Game Specific” fonts include fonts from Savage Empire, Martian Dreams, and Ultima 3. The “Ultimap” fonts, meanwhile, include a series of Wingding-type fonts consisting of the various graphical chunks that made up the world and town maps in early Ultima games. The “Ultima Normal” font is a combined script that uses both Britannian runes and Gargish script. Finally, the “Ultima Runes” font includes a version of the font for the Figlet font system (for UNIX). A GZIPped tarball of Figlet 2.0 is included in the download.

Note: These fonts were collected from four different sources: Aiera’s own backups and the three sites listed above. It is possible (even likely) that some duplication has occurred. Font downloads are presented as a series of ZIP archives according to type (Avatar, Britannian runes, Gargish script…), with each archive containing two or more ZIPped font files with the source of the file identified in the filename.

There was also a version of the Ophidian font available from the now defunct Giedi Prime font site. I uploaded it to http://www.ultimainfo.net/Downloads/Ophidian.zip a few years back when people were looking for it.

Incidently the font used in the Ultima titles wasn’t the Avatar font, which I believe was created based on the game boxes. Check the Ultima Underworld boxes to compare the lettering. *grins*

  2. Thanks Paulon, and you’re right. While some of the Ultima games do use the Avatar font for their titling, others do not — The Black Gate comes to mind in addition to the Underworlds.

The download links are broken — they are pointing to the old domain.

  4. Will fix momentarily…have to go browbeat the download manager.

Would love to someday see the actual bitmap fonts from Ultima V, both Latin and Runic characters. I search every once in a while, but they don’t seem to be around, nor have I ever seen an extracted image file that contain them, as you can find for the graphics tiles.

  6. I’m very glad you created this page… I had copies of most of these fonts, but they appear to have vanished from my drives over the years, and tracking them down again wasn’t going all that well (Micro Dragon’s site & at least two other Dragons that had the fonts are now gone)… So, thank you. :)

Also, it looks like there’s a weird formatting issue with the userpics & usernames on this particular page (or at least, I’ve never seen this happen before here)… The images are aligned with the correct comments, but the names are being crowded on top of the image *below* the appropriate comment, so it looks like WtF has an Ultima V Avatar icon & commented at July 6 2011 instead of Adric Dragon, for example.
